How to Prevent Nail Infection From Eating Away Your Nails

The first sign of a nail infection is the discoloration of your nails. From their pinkish white color, nails usually turn to yellow. And eventually when the infection is already in its advanced stage, nails become brown or black. But probably because of nail polish or simply ignorance, a lot of individuals really do not realize that they have nail problems until such time when the nails chip off and the infection has spread.

Many who have experienced fungal nail infection will tell you that it is truly hard to eliminate. Furthermore, if left untreated, it will spread to other nails and create more havoc. Unless you think that having brittle and yellowish or brownish nails is a good fashion statement, you could really be in for a lot of frustrations because common nail fungal medications usually take weeks or even months to bring back the health of your nails.

The best way to deal with such infection is to prevent it. If you do not ever want to suffer from Nail Fungus, then you ought to read on and follow the tips below.

Never Treat Your Nails Like Tools

A lot of people have been guilty of using their nails as tools every now and then. Since healthy nails are a bit strong, they won't break or chip when used to scrape of stickers from bottles, remove staples from papers or even scratch hard surfaces. In fact, some people even try to open bottles with their nails. Although there may be no visible sign of wear and tear, your nails actually chip or break a little every time you use them as tools. These tears or breaks, no matter how microscopic, are just what bacteria or fungi need to start a full-grown infection.

Regularly Trim And Clean Your Nails

Nails are really easy to maintain. The only thing that they require from you is that you clean and trim them regularly. It will help you a lot if you have a system or schedule in trimming and cleaning your nails. Make sure that the areas under your nails are free from dirt because this is where bacteria and fungi could lurk. By the way, your fingernails are not the only things that need to be taken care of, you also need to make sure that your toenails are also looked after.

Medicate At First Sign Of Injury

Do not dilly-dally when it comes to wounds and cuts on your nails. At first sign of injury, you need to find a medication or treatment, even natural remedies, to help abate the problem. Again, if these wounds are left untreated, they could cause bacterial or fungal infections.

Be Extra Careful When You Wear Artificial Nails

If you are wearing artificial nails, you ought to be extra careful with your natural nails because they are doubly susceptible to infection. Before you put on artificial nails, you need to be aware that the bonding agents used to fit your artificial nails on your real ones are made of chemicals which can damage your soft tissues. As mentioned earlier, slight wounds and cracks can allow fungus and bacteria to penetrate your skin.

Once you have artificial nails, you need to be extra cautious with how you handle things. If there is slight damage to your nails, you have to go to a nail technician to have it fixed. Never attempt to fix them yourself because this can just make things work.

If you already are suffering from nail fungus, you have to boost your immune system too. Learn to eat healthy diet and exercise regularly. Moreover, use a nail fungal infection system that is all natural and safe, just like Somasin. To know more about how fast and effective this anti-fungal system is, simply visit http://www.somasin.com/.

Nail Lacquer Shown Effective for Toenail Fungus

0 Nail Lacquer Shown Effective for Toenail FungusOnychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail. The nail can appear thick and yellow, cloudy or have a white patchy appearance. The fungus itself doesn't cause pain, but pressure from shoes may cause discomfort when thickened. Fungus grows well in a moist, warm environment which means that athletes, individuals who wear closed toe shoes for long periods and those with excess perspiration are more susceptible to development. In a new study (funded by Dermik Laboratories), 55 patients with 289 toenails affected by fungus were randomly divided into two groups and treated with ciclopirox (Penlac® ) with debridement or debridement alone. After an average of 10 months of follow-up, the group treated with both ciclopirox and debridement had a 76% rate of mycological cure, a statistically significant improvement over those with debridement alone. http://www.northcoastfootcare.com/pages/Toenail-Fungus.html

Is there a home remedy for athletes foot?

I think my daughter has Athletes Foot , can somone tell me a home remedy I can use to get rid of it?

Cayenne pepper in the socks. I've used it and it works quicker than the over the counter medications that are available. If there is cracking of the skin it will burn.

I have a friend who swears by Borax rubbed on wet feet, and says that they stop itching instantly.

Tea tree oil diluted in a carrier oil can relieve the itching and burning while providing anti fungal action.

Here is a link to many other home remedies for athlete's foot.

http://www.mothernature.com/Library/bookshelf/Books/41/15.cfm

You can add salt to any of these remedies for it's moisture absorbing properties. Fungus needs moisture to grow and the salt will retain all the available moisture. Cornstartch could also be used, but will become pasty.

Living in the south, I just use cayenne pepper for a ton of stuff.

Natural antifungals that will dramatically reduce the symptoms of toe nail fungus are Oil of Oregano ~ antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial and antiparasitic ..... it has strong antioxidant and antiflammatory effects and is quite effective in eliminating Candida ....... not regular oregano but a wild form (wild mountain oregano, Origanum vulgare species) ..... your local health food store may be able to help you with this one... Oil of Oregano has no side effects and oregano is compatible with any other natural remedy or prescription drug....... the active compounds in Oil of Oregano also act as free radical scavengers thus prevent further tissue damage while encouraging healing.

Grapefruit Seed Extract ~ Go to your local health food store and ask the resident naturopath his/her advice on Grapefruit seed extract.. they don't usually charge for off the cuff advice and are more than willing to share their knowledge ..... Grapefruit seed extract is a multipurpose (broad spectrum) compound that is currently being used in humans and animals alike to safely fight many types of internal and external infections caused from parasites (single and multi-celled), viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Grapefruit seed extracts biggest benefit is due to it's multipurpose (broad spectrum) effect. It is effective even if the causes of the infections are known, unknown or misdiagnosed. By eliminating a wide range of dangerous pathogens grapefruit seed extract actually enhances the immune system.

Freshly crushed cloves of garlic mixed throughout your green vegies and lentils or brown rice, beans, salads etc....... will also help enormously in eradicating parasites and fungus overgrowth..... garlic arre a powerfull natural antibiotic, antiparasitic, antifungal, antibacterial...... that is, if he can tolerate garlic ...... many people suffer from gastric distress eating only the smallest amount of garlic.

Ask at the health food store about other natural antifungals such as Colloidal Silver, Powerded Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, Olive leaf extract too.......... ;0)

Read a book called "Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook" ~ Revised 2nd Edition by jeanne Marie Martin with Zoltan P.Rona, M.D... fabulous reading there for you.

And, of course, complete and total avoidance of any food or drink that contains yeast or sugar ......... an overgrowth of candida albicans will positively thrive and flourish on either yeast or sugar (both natural and processed sugar) ..... and fanatical label reading or simply don't eat from a package and prepare low sugar fresh fruits like pears, strawberries, watermelon and vegies, rices, beans, lentils, some lean meats, organic nuts and seeds yourself ..... and drinking plenty of fresh filtered water .... hydrating yourself properly ..... some people find success by also eliminating natural sugars such as fruits and raw honey...... that's the final route i had to go ..... eliminating all fruit sugars ... even the low sugar ones like pears and strawberries ..... and raw honey for a while.....;0)

    peace baby

Many people don't realize they have a fungal nail problem and, therefore, don't seek treatment. Yet, fungal toenail infections are a common foot health problem and can persist for years without ever causing pain. The disease, characterized by a change in a toenail's color, is often considered nothing more than a mere blemish. Left untreated, however, it can present serious problems.

Also referred to as onychomycosis, fungal nails are infections underneath the surface of the nail, which may also penetrate the nail. Fungal nail infections are often accompanied by a secondary bacterial and/or yeast infection in or about the nail plate, which ultimately can lead to difficulty and pain when walking or running. Symptoms may include discoloration, brittleness, loosening, thickening, or crumbling of the nail.

A group of fungi, called dermophytes, easily attack the nail and thrive on keratin, the nail's protein substance. In some cases, when these tiny organisms take hold, the nail may become thicker, yellowish-brown, or darker in color, and foul smelling. Debris may collect beneath the nail plate, white marks frequently appear on the nail plate, and the infection is capable of spreading to other toenails, the skin, or even the fingernails.

Nail bed injury may make the nail more susceptible to all types of infection, including fungal infection. Those who suffer chronic diseases, such as diabetes, circulatory problems, or immune-deficiency conditions, are especially prone to fungal nails. Other contributory factors may be a history of Athlete's Foot or excessive perspiration.
